Lima's Jorge Chavez International Airport is now one of the 5 most important International Airports in Latin America. The number of passengers transiting through its terminals has more than doubled from 4.2 million in 2002 to a total of 10.6 million in 2011, thanks to the decision of two airlines to install their hubs in Lima for the entire area. The airport's innovative strategies, focused above all on the customer and on operational excellence, have made it the undisputed winner of the Skytrax award for the last three years.
Such a structure requires top level air infrastructure and CORPAC, Peru's Air Navigation Services provider, selected COMSA EMTE to install a new ILS Category III B system to improve the possibility of landings in low visibility conditions. Mr. David de las Peñas, Director for Airports, Maritime and Defense of COMSA EMTE highlighted: "The new ILS implementation is a testimony of our commitment to provide excellence in Air Traffic Support Systems. Turnkey solutions as we did in Lima involving engineers, civil works, new taxiway lighting, and electronics as well as multiple contractors is not an easy task, however teamwork and good understanding allowed COMSA EMTE to work with CORPAC to resolve every issue and challenge that arose to make this project a success. The implementation of the ILS in Lima follows our DVOR works in Ecuador and Mexico, deepening our actions in Latin America".
COMSA EMTE selected International Flight Services, a Santiago, Chile-based company, to provide them with the final in-flight inspection and certification of the newly implemented system. "
We are very pleased with the professionalism, service and coordination that IFS has shown and provided in this enormous challenge. They supplied us with one of the only teams qualified to certify an ILS Category III B in this region" said Luis Salas, COMSA EMTE implementation team leader.
The ILS Category III B was fully installed, tested and commissioned on March
21, 2012 and has been operational since then.
